 Social boycott

When the pagans of Quraish found out that the tribes of Bani Hashim and Bani Muttalib (except for Abu Lahab) have, without any religious discrimination, taken the Holy Prophet (sallallahu ta’ala alaihi wa aalihi wa’sallam) under their protection, they met at a place called Muhassab which is in between Makkah Mukkarrama and Mina Shareef, and decided amongst themselves that until the time the tribe of Banu Hashim did not give The Holy Prophet (sallallahu ta’ala alaihi wa aalihi wa’sallam) to them, no individual will keep any sort of relation with them. Neither will anyone buy anything from them nor will anyone marry into them, and they will not be allowed to move around freely.  They wrote this agreement down and hung it at the door of Kaa'ba.  The pagans of Quraish strictly practiced this agreement and socially boycotted the tribes of Banu Hashim and Banu Muttalib.  So these two tribes stayed with the Muslims in the Sha'ab of Abu Talib.
